Meet OceanFirst’s WaveMaker of the Month – Melissa Garrison

April 1, 2021

We’re pleased to highlight our OceanFirst Bank colleagues who are making a difference with the Foundation’s nonprofit partners – we call them the “WaveMakers” and they’re extraordinary leaders and volunteers.

How long have you been a member of the OceanFirst Bank team? What role do you play on the Bank Team?

I have been with the Bank since October 2017, starting in Deposit Operations as a ACH clerk for 1 1/2 years then gained some experience in Treasury Management Department and have been in my current Deposit Operations role since August 2019. RDI, wire room, and check adjustments are my main job function.

What was the last book you read?

Decades of Deception by Patrick J. Callahan – highly recommend. True story about an acquaintance and how his life turned upside when, at age 40 he found out he had been adopted.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

100% a morning person.

What has been your favorite volunteer activity – and why?

March 20th was one of my most memorable volunteer activities at a church in south Jersey. Along with a few other OFB volunteers, we handed out food, juice, and water to local families in need, all of whom were beyond grateful.

What has volunteering taught you?

I have learned through volunteering, both within and outside the bank, that people may not always remember what you did but will always remember how you made them feel.

What superpower would you choose for yourself?

Reading peoples minds.

How would you spend a million dollars?

Pay off my parent’s house so my father can retire. Set up a college fund for my niece and nephew. Start an animal day care.

If you had to eat one meal everyday for the rest of your life what would it be?

Pizza! There are endless crust and topping possibilities.
