Q & A with OceanFirst’s WaveMaker of the Month – Bobby CookFebruary 5, 2020
We’re pleased to highlight our OceanFirst Bank colleagues who are making a difference with the Foundation’s nonprofit community partners – we call them the “WaveMakers” and they are extraordinary leaders and volunteers.
How long have you been a member of the OceanFirst team?
I am in my 3rd year with the bank.
Tell us about your favorite volunteer activities.
I would have to say that I truly enjoy activities that help people move forward in life achieving goals that may have been hard to reach without the help of our foundation. To see a child’s smile from the support received with a classroom grant enabling them to learn more and feel more confident in their future is something that is near and dear to my personal mission in life.
What motivates you to stay involved and give back through volunteering?
With the OceanFirst Foundation having priorities that align with me personally such as promoting youth development, education and improving quality of life, this helps me feel more connected and inspires me to volunteer as much as possible.
What do you do when you aren’t volunteering?
I love to spend time with my wife Amy, our daughter Hadley, and our many friends. I am very lucky to live in a place along the jersey shore where friends come together, enjoy our town, enjoy our families, and together help raise our children to be good people.
What aspects of your work are you most passionate about?
In my role with the bank, I am very fortunate to assist our business community succeed Working with our business community is rewarding in so many ways; from helping someone finance the business they’ve always dreamed of owning, to the economic growth that company gives with job creation and overall local economic growth.
Who inspires you? Why ?
At home and work, I am surrounded by amazing people. My wife Amy inspires me daily with her passion to be such a great mother to our daughter, balancing a very successful career, and always supporting me in the dreams and aspirations I have. She motivates me to be a better person both personally and professionally.
At work, I am surrounded by people who I feel are incredibly smart, passionate, and dedicated to helping the communities we all serve together. They inspire me every day to be the very best I can be just to keep up with all of them!
What experience has been most impactful for you?
The birth of my daughter immediately forced me to be a better person. When I wake up I have an obligation to lead myself as if she is watching my every step, every word, and how I carry myself every day.
What has been you’re favorite volunteer activity – and why?
I would have to say one of my favorite volunteer activities has been reading to the children of the Ladacin Network and volunteering at their school holiday party. Taking part in their day full of singing, dancing and enjoying the day, I know it helps them feel so happy and truly feel as special as they all are.
