Meet OceanFirst’s WaveMaker of the Month – Anthony Green

June 1, 2024

We’re pleased to highlight our OceanFirst Bank colleagues who are making a difference with the Foundation’s nonprofit partners – we call them the “WaveMakers” and they’re extraordinary leaders and volunteers.

How long have you been a member of the OceanFirst Bank team?

I’ve been a member of the OceanFirst Bank team for 3 years.

What has been your favorite volunteer activity – and why?

My favorite volunteer activity has been the mentoring program with the Mercy Center’s Sisters Academy in Asbury Park. During this mentoring program, we visited the 8th grade girls 4 times over the course of the school year and hosted them at our Red Bank headquarters for the 5th session. The recurring nature of the meetings allowed us to get the know the personalities of the girls and develop a level of comfort that allowed for free flowing conversations and genuine connections.

What has volunteering taught you?

Volunteering has taught me that in a capitalistic society there is still enough compassion to set time apart to give back to our local communities so that we can all progress forward each day.

If you could pick a superpower, what would it be?

My superpower would be the ability to fly. Aside from the physical benefits such as quickly navigating from point A to point B while avoiding traffic and enjoying scenic views, I am also fascinated by the physics of aerodynamics and engineering of modern airplanes (my dad also happens to be an airline pilot for United Airlines).

Would you rather skydive or go bungee jumping? Why?

I’d rather skydive, it is actually something on my bucket list. Bungee jumping feels a little more dangerous and extreme to me although I have not done the research.

Are you a traveler or a homebody?

I would consider myself a traveler. A few of my favorite trips have been to Israel (Tel Aviv and Jerusalem), Brazil (Florianopolis), China (Chengdu, Sichuan Province), and Montana (Glacier National Park).

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I’m a night owl who has been forced to also become a morning person by virtue of my baby girl 🙂
